Method Statement for Wallpaper Installation.


Scope.

The purpose of this method statement is for the installation wallpaper of the overall project  site plus the materials and labor required to undertake the works in a safe and controlled manner,  compiling with relevant legislation, Standards and Codes of practice etc. 

The method statement shall be briefed to all appropriate operatives to ensure that they are aware  of the sequence of activities and any Client/Consultant project specific requirements. 

A constant monitoring and supervision duty shall be undertaken by the main contractor to ensure work activities are carried out in accordance with the method statement. Any  irregularities shall be immediately actioned.

Access and Egress.

Access to the site or working area shall be available to all workers assigned to the site. All  operatives should maintain access and egress routes and ensure that materials required for  the projects do not obstruct the work areas.  Debris that may arise during the operation should be  removed and wasted shall be minimized and to be removed from site at any given time. 

Logistics.

Packing.

Wallpaper and other materials related to the project will be packed with  plastic.  Cardboards and safety packing methods to protect the edges and material.  

Loading and unloading of materials.

The subcontractor always assesses all the manual handling operations that the staff perform (i.e., Lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling). 

When transporting wallpaper to a job site, make certain to keep the cartons flat and supported along their entire length. 

Store the panel on a flat surface and support the entire length of the cartons.  

Keep the cartons dry.  

Store the cartons away from areas where falling objects or other construction activity may cause damage. 

Do not store the cartons in stacks more than six boxes high, and make sure the stacks are stable.  

Do not store the panel in any location where temperatures may exceed 130° F/54.4° C (e.g., on blacktop pavement during unusually hot weather or under dark tarps or plastic wraps without air circulation) and humidity should not exceed manufacturer recommendation. 

Procedure and sequence of work.

Preliminary activities.

All Wallpaper material will be closely monitored and supervised by subcontractor.  The subcontractor will verify if the material complies with the project specification based on the  approved material Sample. Once the items are prepared, these will be protectively packed in a  cartoon with proper label identifications, numbers, and locations.  All finished products will be  distributed in the assigned areas carefully hoisted to prevent damages. 

Pre- construction activities.

Approved materials shall be used in accordance with the project drawings and specifications to confirm wall covering /finishes items are manufactured as per approved details. 

The items will be taken to a location at site and inspected prior to installation for any damage. 

Check the dimensions of the opening size, the width and height and overall dimension of the items. 

Climate /Environmental Control to be operational. 

Equipment.

  • Steel Tape Measure 
  • Plumb Bob or 48” Level. 
  • Water Tray 
  • Seam Roller 
  • Wallpaper Smoothing Brush 
  • Razor Knife with lots of blades  • Broad Knife 
  • Large Sponge 
  • Bucket 
  • Pencil 
  • Large Flat Work Surface 

Pre-installation.

All materials and shop drawings to be approved prior to commencement of works 

Material inspection request to be raised as soon as materials delivered to site and copy of approved material submittal and sample to be attached.

Work inspection request to be raised prior to hanging of wallpaper for surface preparation. 

Make sure that the rolls carry the same reference; shade and batch number and those which are ordered as per specifications. 



Make sure that the rolls color match each and check them against the others in good natural daylight. 

Make sure that the walls are clean and dry. 

Installation of wallpaper.

Installation over painted block wall.

Check that the wall surface is ready for installation. Wall should be free from grease, oil, cracks, damages, and  vertical/ horizontal alignment as per project specification tolerance.  

Apply wall preparation to the wall using approved material.  

Once the surface preparation inspection request is approved, we will apply for the wallpaper.  

Apply pre-mixed paste. 

Once pasted, all wallpaper needs to soak for a period before hanging. This allows the moisture to be absorbed and the paper to fully expand.    

Carefully use the utilities knives along the angle of panel edge all around where the wallpaper must be cut off.  

Carefully wipe surplus paste from the surface of the paper with a damp sponge to avoid marking when it dries. 

Installation of wallpaper over MDF panels.

Fix MDF on the wooden backing at site as per approved shop drawings.  

Apply wall preparation to the MDF using approved material.  

Once MDF surface ready for receiving the wallpaper, raise surface preparation inspection request.

Once the surface preparation inspection request is approved, apply the wallpaper.  

Apply pre-mixed paste.

Start Point.

Mark the wallpaper as per approved drawing. 

Mark a vertical against a plumb line and wallpaper parallel with the wall edge.


 

Protection.

After finishing the cleaning process, cover the wallpaper with carton sheets and cover the elements by polythene sheet to prevent the collection of any dirty materials. The edges of the completed elements need to be carefully protected. 

Where possible, restrict access to areas where wallpaper works have been completed.
