Description of Supply and Installation of Door.

PRE-CONSTRUCTION.

Preliminary Activities:

  • Submit method statement, Risk assessment and inspection test plan to the engineer for approval.
  • Ensure that all necessary plant, labor, and materials are available
  • Identify quantify and ensure all risk are managed in this Method Statement and residual risks are acceptable. Refer Risk Assessment RA attached.

Pre-Construction Activities:

  • Ensure all required documents (MS, MTS, RA, and MIR etc.) have been obtained prior to start of activity.
  • Ensure sufficient lighting is in place prior to starting the activity.
  • Proceed with installation only when unsatisfactory conditions have been removed.
  • Ensure all proposed materials compliance with specified requirements.

Construction activities:

Work Preparation:

  • Review and quality control of the documents handed in from Technical Department
  • Define assembly line stages and Work cycles, evaluate personnel requirements.
  • Scheduling of all processes to ensure that all parts are ready at assembly time. Monitor timely incoming of materials and report critical deliveries back to procurement.
  • Materials Receiving and Inspection.
  • Woodwork products as designed from wood that has been kiln dried to appropriate moisture content (7-13%) and problems directly or indirectly attributed to dimensional change of the wood are usually, In fact the result of improper humidity conditions during storage, installation.
  • Inspection of the materials received shall be as per applicable specification.

Fabrication.

Machining and assembly shall be as per the approved shop drawings which shall also apply for manufacturer’s Standard fixtures, screws, and fasteners as per Project specifications will be used for assembling while in shop & fixing during site installation.

QC Inspection.

The Quality Department will inspect the materials in process & prior to site Delivery as per the ITP  based on relevant AWI standards. Materials ready for final dispatch will be labelled with QC checked stickers/tags as per our ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System.

Material Delivery, Storage & Handling.

Handling:

Avoid bruising and damage caused by heavy contact with the ground. Wear clean gloves to avoid leaving finger marks.

Stacking Components & Assemblies.

  •  Stack horizontally on level supports that extend across the full width of the components.
  • Provide support and at 300mm from each end. If over 2150 in height, provide intermediate supports.
  • Cover the supports with cardboard or like prevent marking.
  • Stack with the largest components at the bottom with size reducing up the stack. Do not stack higher than 1.4 meters and consider the weight of components. Material at the bottom should not  experience  heavy   crushing   forces.  When  components  have projections such as pre- fitted hardware, provide level intermediate battens between components to allow clearance.

Protection.

Exposure to light may fade timber, so cover material with opaque sheeting to prevent fading and keep materials clean. This is especially important with veneered materials.

Installation.

  • Check the opening into which the door-set is to be fitted to ensure that it has been prepared to the correct dimensions and that it is plumb and square, within reasonable tolerances.
  • Position the frame centrally in the width of the opening and fix the hanging jamb using fixings worked  against wedges to ensure that the hanging jamb is plumb and square and aligns correctly with the opening.
  • Hang the door leaf and align the secondary jamb and head such that the operating gaps between the door and frame are equal. This can be done by visual assessment.
  • Remove the doors and ensure that the frame is fixed firmly in the opening.
  • Re-hang the doors and check for swing characteristics operation. Adjust fixings as necessary to obtain correct operation while maintaining operating gaps within tolerances.
  • Cover fixings using pellets or by other means.
  • If a loose doorstop is used, fix the doorstop to suit the face of the door.
  • Apply Expanding Foam to the void between the frame and the surrounding structure and trim away any excess foam after curing.
  • Fix projecting ironmongery and test the door-set for the correct operation.
  • Clean the door-set and offer for final inspection and handover to the Main Contractor.
