Method Statement for GRP Lining in Water Tank.
PURPOSE AND SCOPE OF WORK.
The purpose of this method of statement is to define the
specific procedure for the sequence of GRP lining works in a confined space
considering all safety and quality requirements for this project.
The scope of this method statement is to provide the
specific work procedures for the complete application and handing over of GRP
lining in a confined space for concrete surfaces including water tanks in
accordance with the material approval and specifications.
This document defines Methodology, Application, Materials,
Inspection, Final Approvals, Quality & Safety requirements and equipment
intended to be used in performing the works as established in the project
specifications and Method statement details the procedure for GRP lining for
concrete surfaces on a confined space.

WORK PROCEDURE.
Preliminary: -
1. Before commencing GRP works, materials will be submitted
and approval
will be taken.
2. Proper coordination with other services and MEP,
incorporating wall
opening, sleeves or any other Architectural and
Electrical/Mechanical
services opening will be subject to approval of
Engineer.
3. Ensure approval of this Method Statement prior to
starting GRP lining works.
Material Delivery, Handling & Storage: -
1. Upon receiving all the approved material on site related
to GRP lining
works. The storekeeper shall inform the QA/QC Engineer and
provide him
with a copy of the delivery note. The QC Engineer shall
inspect the
delivery and if acceptable raise a “material inspection
request" for
Engineer approval. Ensure you to protect the products during
delivery,
handling and storage from weather, damage or staining with
suitable
packing and wrapping.
2. The materials shall store in a clear ground, concrete or
damp surfaces on
suitable packers spaced to prevent distortion.
3. The materials shall be stored in a clear ground, concrete
or damp surfaces on
suitable packers spaced to prevent distortion.
4. The storage area shall be kept secure from unauthorized
access. Keep
other combustible products out of liquid storage area. Keep
suitable fire
extinguishers in accessible adjacent locations.
Execution & Application: -
1. The concrete surface must be minimum 30 days of age
before receiving
the GRP lining system.
2. Concrete surface grinding, repairing must be done to
remove all
irregularities to become the surface linear. Moreover, the
grinded surface
has more porosity which will ensure a stronger bonding with
resin.
3. After grinding, accumulated concrete powder and debris
must be removed properly. The surface should be rough and dry.
4. The surface shall be free from standing water.
5. Pipes/Sleeves, Conduits, drains or any other penetrations
shall be in
place, secure and protected prior to the application.
6. Application of the GRP lining system shall be carried out
by Image Fibre
glass Industry LLC professional supervisor along its team
and shall visit
the site to ensure that the concrete surface is ready to
receive GRP works
and is properly prepared as per manufacture's
requirement.
7. WIR will be raised to the Engineer for approval after the
completion of
surface preparation.
Application of GRP Lamination.
- GRP Angle fillet should be provided with all corners of U/G Water Tank.
- Extra Stiffeners will be provided for all joints.
- Minimum 10-20cm Overlapping for each joint.
- The working area of the concrete wall surface will be primed with one coat of G.P resin.
- Apply Five Layers of Chopped Strand mat above the primed Surface with Orthophthalic resin.
- The Two Coat of Orthophthalic Gel Coat will be applied on the lining to cover The Exposed Fiber/ Pinholes.
- All work done is to be protected from dust & sunlight and allow for drying & curing for 24 hrs.
- This procedure is adopted for the walls, Floors & Ceiling.
- The Maximum Total Thickness of 5 mm of GRP lamination will be achieved.
- After completing all the work allow for drying then inspect the area of lining.
- The water test will be conducted once the GRP Lamination is fully cured for 48 hrs.
- Adequate ventilation shall be provided inside the water tank.
- Safe Access shall be provided during the GRP application.
